UAE Imposes Fee on Playing Licensed Music in Cafes, Hotels and Malls

The United Arab Emirates has introduced a fee for playing music in cafes, hotels and malls, as authorities move to regulate commercial music use from December.

Officials said the new licence fee will apply to commercial venues, including cafes, hotels, malls and other business locations where music is played publicly.

The music licence will be valid for one year and must be renewed annually. Educational institutions, government offices and non-commercial events will remain exempt from the fee.

They warned that action will be taken against venues that play music without a valid licence.
