Huawei has revived the SE line in its Nova smartphone family with the launch of the Nova 16 SE. The company had not released a new SE-branded model since the Nova 12 SE.
Huawei introduced the phone alongside several other products, including the ultralight MateBook Pro S laptop with a built-in privacy display.
The Huawei Nova 16 SE features a 6.84-inch flat OLED display with a resolution of 2756 × 1272 pixels. The panel supports a 120Hz refresh rate, 1440Hz high-frequency PWM dimming and up to 8,000 nits of local peak brightness.
The phone uses an aluminium alloy frame and a fibreglass rear panel. It measures 7.98mm in thickness and weighs 229 grams.
It also carries IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K ratings for protection against dust and water. Other design-related features include a side-mounted fingerprint scanner and dual super-linear 1115 speakers.
The Nova 16 SE runs on Huawei’s Kirin 8020 chipset and comes with up to 512GB of internal storage.
It ships with HarmonyOS 6.1. Connectivity and additional features include Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, NFC, Star Flash 2.0, an IR blaster and Beidou satellite messaging.
The phone has a dual-camera system on the back. Its main camera uses a 50MP RYYB sensor measuring 1/1.56 inches and supports optical image stabilisation.
Huawei has paired the main sensor with its Red Maple colour camera to improve colour reproduction.
A 32MP front-facing camera handles selfies and video calls.
The Huawei Nova 16 SE packs an 8,500mAh battery and supports 66W wired fast charging.
The 128GB model costs around $370. The 256GB version is priced at approximately $400, while the 512GB model costs around $475.
The Nova 16 SE is currently available in China. It is the fifth and likely final member of the Nova 16 series, following the Nova 16z, Nova 16, Nova 16 Pro and Nova 16 Ultra, which Huawei introduced earlier this year.
