FBR Removes Senior Officer Over Corruption Charges

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has removed Khurram Fakhar Siddique, a BS 18 officer of the Inland Revenue Service, from service over charges of misconduct and corruption.
According to an FBR notification, disciplinary proceedings established all charges against the officer. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, as the competent authority, imposed the major penalty of removal from service with immediate effect under the Civil Servants (Efficiency and Discipline) Rules, 2020.
The officer has the right to appeal the decision before the Appellate Authority within 30 days of receiving the notification.
The action comes as the FBR steps up its internal accountability drive against corruption and misconduct. The tax authority has repeatedly said officers found involved in corrupt practices will face disciplinary action, while it has also introduced mechanisms for taxpayers to report complaints against FBR officials.
